Performer Bios:

Dr. Sherri Canon is a music educator, musician (piano, drums, percussion), and songwriter. Her roots are in the Austin, Texas music scene, where she played in many punk, rock, pop, blues, and world music bands. While in Austin, she picked up a Bachelor of Arts in Music and a Masters and PhD in Ethnomusicology from the University of Texas at Austin. Her studies included a year abroad at the University of Ghana, West Africa. Sherri lives in Los Angele, where she juggles teaching, performing, writing, and being a mom.

Timothy Dark is a native New Yorker who's full band stage show encompasses politically charged hip-hop, buttery R&B, grimy rock, street savvy poetry, literature, non-dogmatic spirituality, and singer-songwriter style emotional intimacy. He is always honored to be asked to be a contribute work to the Bushwick Book Club series.

Amy Faust:
(Portland host/harmonizer) Amy is a professional talker who wakes up early to talk with Mike Chase on their award-winning morning radio show on 99.5 The Wolf. She also loves singing, reading and drinking, so she's pretty much in heaven right now.

Juliet Garrett - songwriter, actor, Psychobaby
Juliet Garrett is a Brooklyn based actor and musician. She has been making up songs about things since she could walk, earning her the childhood nickname "walking operetta." She performs with her rock band, Psychobaby, and studies acting with Mercedes Ruehl. She has been fortunate to appear in several independent films and, recently, Chris Wells' show "It Will All Work Out." Follow along @julietgarrett

Casey Holford is a music engineer and composer who records bands and artists in the NYC music community, and is currently mixing and scoring the Stitcher podcast Heaven's Gate.

Susan Hwang tells stories and makes things that are usually collapsible, like songs and times.  Her instruments take up space (accordion, Janggu—traditional Korean drum, piano) but other physical objects she can’t play, wear or eat intimidate her.  She founded, curates and hosts The Bushwick Book Club – a monthly live performance series and podcast presenting new work by local musicians, artists and chefs inspired by literature.  She hosted and produced TV variety talk show—The La La La Show— broadcast on Manhattan Neighborhood Network.  She’s was a singer, instrumentalist and songwriter in internationally touring cabaret-pop power trio, The Debutante Hour and she led NYC heavy math rock group Murderizer as well as neo-soul band Soozee Hwang and The Relastics.  Her duo with songwriter/producer Charlie Nieland is called Lusterlit, and they refuse to play anything but songs about books.  Their fourth recording will be released in 2018.  Susan plays accordions because they are pretty and lighter than pianos (barely).  She plays drums because it's healthy for a girl to hit things.

Alan Kanning specializes in melancholy.

Jessie Kilguss: Singer/songwriter Jessie Kilguss has released 3 albums. In 2015, she sang harmony and played the harmonium with Freddie Stevenson, opening for the Waterboys on the European leg of their Modern Blues tour. Also in 2015, she played a featured show at the Sundance Film Festival.
Kilguss is a former actress who made the switch to songwriting after performing with one of her musical heroes, Marianne Faithfull, in London and Sydney in a musical written by Tom Waits and William Burroughs. She also acted in the film adaptation of The Crucible, starring Daniel Day Lewis and Winona Ryder.

Larry Krone is an artist/entertainer who straddles the worlds of art, music, performance, and design. He performs regularly at art and music venues in New York City and beyond.  He has performed and recorded with Clint Michigan, Bridget Everett, Neal Medlyn/Champagne Jerry, Stephin Merritt, and Jim Andralis (his favorite, if he must choose).

Ian Mackintosh is a nationally acclaimed singer, songwriter and producer who works as half of the duo Mackintosh Braun and also as a solo artist. He has done remixes for artists such as OMD / Aretha Franklin, Lady Gaga, Chromeo, and Shiny Toy Guns. His music has been featured in “Veronica Mars (the Movie)”, “The Beaver“ and on hit TV shows like “Grey’s Anatomy“, “Gossip Girl”, “Keeping up with the Kardashians“ and more. He is currently working on a solo album, “Don’t Show This to Anyone”.

Charlie Nieland - producer, lusterlit.bandcamp.com Charlie Nieland is a musician/producer in Bushwick Brooklyn. He's co written and produced material with Debbie Harry, Rufus Wainwright, Rachelle Garniez, Jessie Kilguss, Her Vanished Grace and more. Charlie is now half of the literature inspired songwriting and performing duo Lusterlit with Susan Hwang.

Jet Black Pearl The untamed and inimitable Jet Black Pearl from the port of Amsterdam spent many years in the south of France before settling in Portland in 2014.
She has performed on more than a thousand stages all over the world.
Intelligently zany, her songs sound like a mad hatter’s European gypsy tea party with a hip hop attitude.
She creates grooves and mesmerizing layers of flute, plastic bottles, vocal percussion and harmonies while squeezing one hot accordion.

Terry Radigan is a singer/songwriter, producer and member of the band VickiKristinaBarcelona! along with Rachelle Garniez & Amanda Homi.
She’s written for TV and for other recording artists including Patty Loveless, Anúna, Trisha Yearwood & Ashley Macisaac .  She hosts and curates the Radigan Roundup series in Brooklyn!

Don Rauf is the lead singer and songwriter for the New York band Life in a Blender, which recently released its ninth album Happy Enough on Fang Records. He is the author of many nonfiction books for middle school students, including Killer Lipstick and Other Spy Gadgets. He believes that if you hit the piñata hard enough, the candy will come out.

Justin Remer is a filmmaker and performing songwriter who hasn't done much you've heard of. He used to lead the Elastic No-No Band and now puts out albums as Duck the Piano Wire, so he's easy to Google. He also used to work for the exploitation film company Troma, and once had to appear at a Q&A as the Toxic Avenger despite having never appeared in a movie.

Stacy Rock (Founder of BBC LA Chapter) is an award winning singer songwriter and has toured extensively in support of her two albums.  She now lives and creates in Los Angeles with her husband and two children.  She can be seen weekly as the resident piano woman at the Montage Hotel in Beverly Hills and other local venues.  www.stacyrock.com

Matt Schulte: Singer/songwriter Matt Schulte has had a long and varied career in music. He has shared stages with alt-rock trailblazers like Firehose and Camper Van Beethoven ‘BITD' with his punk-pop trio Crashing Plains, opened acoustic shows for the likes of Shawn Colvin and Peter Case, and toured and recorded the album Live at the Neurolux with his country-soul band The Boxer Rebellion. He has released avant-garde noise rock as well as sample-heavy pop music on vinyl on various indie labels. Most recently he composed and performed music for the feature film Big Significant Things, starring Game of Thrones’ Harry Lloyd and is writing a musical called Portland Dark. Matt is also co-founder and CEO of media company Lower Boom (lowerboom.com).

Molly White is a songwriter, musician, and artist in residence for the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center.  She performs regularly with old-time Appalachian dancer and singer Rebecca Stout, as well as the LA based Eastern European Women’s Ensemble: Nevenka.  She teaches a group fiddle and guitar class for young learners through the Suzuki Music Program of LA, and her latest recording is called Peach & Spoon, an album of children’s songs that adults also seem to enjoy.
