Dracula: Son of the Dragon TPB

Dracula: Son of the Dragon -- original graphic novel
Written by Mark Sable
Art by Salgood Sam

Dracula: Son of the Dragon is part historical fiction, part horror fantasy and tells the blood-soaked epic of the real-life Vlad the Impaler’s transformation into the vampire Dracula.

Dracula: Son of the Dragon, the terrifying origin story of the man known as Dracula, reunites writer Mark Sable and artist Salgood Sam—the two first worked together on a short story adapting a Tori Amos song for the Eisner Award winning anthology Comic Book Tattoo.

How did 15th century ruler Vlad Tepes (Vlad the Impaler, Vlad Drucul), the so-called “historical Dracula,” become the world’s most notorious vampire? As an adolescent in Wallachia, young Prince Vlad learns hard lessons in politics and betrayal and is held prisoner of the Ottoman Turks after being introduced to the Dark Arts at the infamous Scholomance in Transylvania. To survive he believes he must kill in the name of God in order to serve the Holy Roman Order of The Dragon—a very secret—but very real —society both Vlad and his father were members of—but at what cost?

Mark Sable is a writer for print, stage and screen best known for his creator-owned comic books. Sable's first published work was Grounded (Image Comics) with artist Paul Azaceta, the tale of a teenager sent to a high school for superheroes where everyone has powers except him. The two also collaborated on Graveyard of Empires (Image Comics), about marines and Taliban teaming to fight a zombie insurgency in Afghanistan, which Sable is adapting for the screen. He is also the writer of Godkillers (Aftershock Comics) and The Dark (comiXology Originals) and is currently writing Miskatonic (Aftershock Comics).

Salgood Sam aka Max Douglas, has been making comics for about 30 years, his work has been published notably by Image, IDW/NMK, Marvel & DC, and outside of comics clients have included The Criterion Collection, Bravo TV, Nelvana Studios, Netflix and Fox among many others. Recently he’s been paying the bills as a designer on F is for Family, while hiding out from the pandemic with his wife in their downtown Montreal apt with three cats.
